WFP has received funding from the UN Secretary General’s COVID Trust Fund to support the provision of food packets (containing wheat flour, pulses, oil, and salt) to about 20,000 poor and vulnerable households in Lucknow. Building on its global expertise, WFP will take the lead to build capacity and promote learning of food-based humanitarian response, adapting corporate tools and approaches for the Indian context. Based on the approved beneficiary list, SAMARTH organizes the requisite support to transport and distribute the food packets promptly. This activity planned and executed in a phased manner to allow incorporation of learnings, and to promote social distancing. The distribution will follow WFP’s guidance shared with NGOs, which can be found here. Informing beneficiaries about the venue, date, time, and other instructions for food packet distribution. After identification of the beneficiary, we will issue tokens to all beneficiaries. These token will be provided to every beneficiary to ensure the actual beneficiary gets the food packet. We will send this digital token to each beneficiary who has a smartphone. Tokens (for food packet collection) will be distributed to beneficiaries with support from CHWs 1-2 days in advance of the actual distribution who don’t have a mobile number. Tele callers will provide information about the venue, date, time, and other instructions for food packet distribution by calling each listed beneficiary.
